Socialism: Origins, Expansion, Decline, and Attempted Revival in the United States is an attempt to address all the important economic aspects of socialism—the concepts and theories, the historical attempts to implement socialist economic systems, and the endeavor to establish socialism in the United States.
If you have looked over the website, you will see that I have devoted a good share of my life researching and writing about the issues that arise in socialism. Unfortunately, despite its wonderful objectives, this economic system fell short in many particulars. I have documented in Socialism the precise nature of its failure as an economic program and why socialists now seek only to tax those who earn and redistribute to those who consume. You will find here the honest answers to your honest and sincere questions.
I turned down an offer of Palgrave Macmillan, perhaps the leading publisher of books on economics, to publish this book. They would have produced it in three volumes, each costing $120 for a total of $360 for the entire work. I self-published so that you could get a copy at a reasonable price. You can read about the book and its two sequels at https://brysonknowssocialism.com/ and order the book there.
Perhaps you are short of time to read a book of over 800 pages right now. For the price of an ebook or a paper-bound book, you can have the book on your shelf for when you are ready. And right now you can read a single chapter (the summary and overview chapter at the end of the book) that will break down all the individual chapters succinctly, giving you the takeaways, conclusions, and logic of the whole work. That overview chapter will arm you with the evidence that socialism won’t lead us to a promised land. For questions about the historical development of the logic, the evidence, the scholarly references, the statistical data, the detailed analysis and all the other materials used in the book to support my conclusions, you can go back to the individual chapters on your preferred topics at your leisure. I have developed some suggestions about this in my page on “Suggestions for using an encyclopedic kind of book” you might want to look at.
You can order the book by clicking on “Buy the Book” and purchasing it from Xlibris directly, or by clicking on “Order a Copy Now” and purchasing it from Amazon. And this is an attractive book that will convince your friends you are well on your way to being a scholar of socialism. For shorter works, my other two trade books on socialism are also available.
