The short sequel to Socialism,
It was written for millennials and their fellow citizens. It is here! Socialism Revealed: Why Socialism’s Issues Have Never Permitted Success in a Real Economy is 150 pages short.
I spent a career researching socialist economics, then in retirement I spent about four years studying and preparing the book featured in this website: Socialism: Origin, Expansion, Decline, and the Attempted Revival in the United States. It was published in 2015 and, among many other things, it reported on the candidacy of Senator Bernie Sanders for the presidency of the United States. After publication and after the election, it became apparent that socialism had become, quite suddenly in American history, very popular among millennials and other segments of society.
Because of its growing popularity, I wrote another book for millennials and their parents, as well as for all American voters. The book just came out and is now available on Amazon! Rather than encyclopedic, this new book will be updated and brief, directly addressing the points of advocacy of socialists in American politics and in the presidential election of 2020. In well under 200 pages the book explores the fundamental issues of socialism today as presented by our current leftist politicians.
The U.S. Review of Books has already provided a most positive review of the book, writing:
“Bryson has researched comparative economic systems, international economics, and socialism for half a century. As part of his lifelong exploration, he has lived and worked in West Berlin, East Berlin, Munich, Vienna, London, Moscow and elsewhere, has taught in universities, and to date has authored eight books on these and related topics. As a result of all that impressive background, Professor Bryson states that he has great concerns about the fiscal, social, and political implications of socialist initiatives in recent American history, particularly in the Obama administration. To deal with his concerns, he has decided to bring them to light in this latest effort. He accomplishes that with an abundance of historical perspectives, detailed explanations, and deliberate viewpoints.
As skilled with prose as he is fervent in opinion, Bryson has been resolute in his determination to make this newest volume the last word on international and American socialism.”

Now, a New Book in the Series!
From the back cover:
Socialism USA: A Plea for a Soft Variant, was written by one who rather dreads the coming socialist economy in the United States. It reviews the results of “hard” socialism in countries that have become totalitarian dictatorships, depriving their citizens of human rights and producing an equality of poverty. Of the two elements of genuine, Marxist-Leninist (“hard”) socialism, it is the state’s attempt to own and micro-manage every firm and corporation in the economy that brings disaster. Nationalization of industry is more than a state bureaucracy can handle for an entire economy; it leads to great efforts to force control on the system and the citizens. The second element of socialism is the redistribution of income and social welfare policies. If only this element comes into play, socialism can become “soft” as in Sweden and the Scandinavian countries, and need not be dictatorial and authoritarian. Technically, that system is still capitalism (no state ownership of the means of production), but it is capitalism with redistribution of income. Happily, it is achievable and it meets socialistic objectives and preferences. It also offers suggestions how to reform our social welfare and redistribution policies so as to remove the injustice, fraud and waste that are currently a part of these programs. In any case, please, young and also seasoned socialists, if we must have socialism, let us have soft socialism and be as free as the Scandinavians with an economy that works.
